The Sherwood inn is located in the town of
Skaneateles,
New York. The town is at the northern end of one Skaneateles Lake which is on
the Eastern End of the Finger Lakes region.
The Inn dates back to 1807 and is across route 20 from the lake. The hotel is
well maintained. We stayed in a recently renovated second floor room.
If you go, be aware that there are no elevators so pack light and make sure you
have wheeled luggage. As you come up the first flight of stairs, you come to a
wide hallway with polished wood floors. There are couches in the hallway with
bookcases full of a variety of old books. The top of the second floor shows it’s
age a little which just adds to the character of the place
If you like things a little quieter, the second floor will put you a little
further away from the bustle of the bar, kitchen, dining room and lobby.
The entire hotel is non smoking and they offer free wireless Internet access.
The hotel is ideally located with a view of the lake and right in the middle of
the historic/shopping district
Lunch
We stopped in for a late lunch. I ordered Chicken and Brie which came on
sourdough bread. For desert I opted for the Chocolate Bombe. Both were delicious.
The service was a little slow
Dinner
For dinner, I ordered the Diver’s Scallops. This was about 6 large scallops
served with barley and a raspberry sauce. They were simply delicious. I also had
a cappuccino and opted for the bombe again. The service was much faster this
time. Reservations are a great idea in season. The hotel has a number of dining
rooms on the first floor. All of them were full.
